Change Management

I am often asked: What is your biggest learning as a #CEO?

I say: Undoubtedly - #Change #Management

So what is Change Management?

My take: It is like Driving a Borrowed Car on a long Road, full of Potholes!

Let me use this (crazy) analogy to make some key points (legacy businesses being the context):

1. Know at what speed to drive (Change): If you drive too fast – you might have an accident or damage the car. If you drive too slowly – you may never reach your destination in time.

2. Feel for the Car: Empathy is the key starting point for change management. Every jerk your car gets during the journey – you should feel the same pain as the car Owner would feel.

3. Be a determined Driver: Such journeys are never completed alone. Your co-passengers will look at your steel at every jolt in the journey. So, show them your determination. Every time.

4. Running out of Gas: In this long journey your car might run out of gas, and you may feel stranded in the middle of nowhere. You will need all yours (and your co-passengers’) might to push the car to the next gas station. So, stay in good shape and have high energy levels.

Sometimes simple analogies can help explain complex concepts.
